Horses

The Foxie G Foundation typically cares for approximately 100 horses at any given time. Horses under our care come from various sources including kill pens, directly from the racetrack, animal control due to neglect or abuse cases and owner give-ups. They can vary greatly in their ages and body conditions. Upon arrival, all horses are evaluated, provided with proper veterinary care if needed, given time to just be a horse or have their injuries heal.

Our goal is to find every horse possible a forever home through our adoption program. Horses who are not suitable candidates for adoption due to past injuries, behavioral issues or age, are placed in our sanctuary program.

Visitors are welcome to tour the farm and meet our horses, but we ask that you please make an appointment before you visit.

Adopt a Horse

Horses coming into our adoption program are extensively evaluated on the ground and under tack before being placed up for adoption. Horses are also evaluated to determine the level of rider or handler needed and the best new career options based on the horse’s natural ability or physical limitations.

Though ideally we are searching for forever homes for our “kids”, any horse adopted out by The Foxie G Foundation, can return to our farm at any time, for any reason.

We have over 12 horses ready to find their forever home with many more currently being evaluated. Please contact Laurie at 301-667-2553 to set up a time to meet our horses.

Ready to adopt? Complete and email the horse adoption application to whinnywhiskers@thefoxiegfoundation.org. We do require a minimum of one farm visit to meet and work with the horse you are interested in adopting.

Rehabilitation

Horses arriving at Foxie G that have suffered an injury while at the racetrack, are recovering from a neglect or abuse case or have a poor body condition are placed in our rehabilitation program. The rehabilitation process can vary greatly and is tailored to meet each horse’s needs with the assistance of our veterinarian and farrier. After the horse has recovered fully and has been cleared by our veterinarian, he or she is then evaluated for our adoption program.

Our Horse Sanctuary

Horses that are not viable candidates for adoption are placed in our sanctuary program and reside with us permanently. Permanent retirees include Rockinn On Bye, 11 year old multiple graded stakes placed winner of $672,801, Not For Silver, 16 years old who was a graded stakes winning gelding of $303,870 and Wellington’s Arch, a hard trying 20 year old mare who earned $78,317 in 17 starts. But they don’t need to be stakes winners or winners at all to be in our program.

To help offset the expenses incurred when caring for a horse over the duration of his or her life, we are always in need of sponsors for our sanctuary horses. This is a wonderful option for those that can’t adopt but would like to help support the horses under our care. Since horses can live into their late 20s and sometimes even 30s, having horses sponsored allows us to continue to help others in need.
